What is BNB?

BNB is the native token of Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, and of the BNB Smart Chain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain. It is used for trading-fee discounts, gas on BNB Chain, and a recurring "burn" that gradually reduces total supply.

History

Origin & evolution

BNB was launched in July 2017 via an ICO that raised approximately $15 million, originally issued as an ERC-20 token before migrating to Binance's own chains. Binance conducts quarterly burns funded by exchange profits, with a goal of reducing total BNB supply to 100 million.
