AboutWhat is Monero?
Monero is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that obscures transaction amounts, senders, and recipients by default using ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential transactions. Unlike opt-in privacy on other chains, every Monero transaction is private, there is no public address balance.
HistoryOrigin & evolution
Monero launched in April 2014 as a fork of the Bytecoin codebase, originally branded "BitMonero". Its development is led by an open community of contributors, and it has periodically undergone hard forks (every ~6 months historically) to upgrade its privacy primitives and resist ASIC mining.
