What is the Nasdaq 100?

The Nasdaq-100 captures the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, making it a concentrated bet on US large-cap growth and technology. It is the underlying index for the popular QQQ ETF and is closely watched as a proxy for mega-cap tech performance.

History

Origin & evolution

Launched on 31 January 1985 with a base value of 250, it was rebased to 125 in January 1994 after rising sharply. The index is reconstituted annually and rebalanced quarterly to keep individual stock weights from becoming overly concentrated.
