Market Structure

What is AUM (Assets Under Management)?

AUM is the total market value of all investments managed by a fund house or asset manager — a measure of scale and investor trust.

Formula

AUM = Sum of (NAV × Units Outstanding) for all schemes

How to Interpret

Larger AUM indicates more investor trust but may also reduce flexibility for active managers. Very large AUM can make it harder to generate alpha.

Typical Ranges

India's mutual fund industry AUM crossed ₹60 lakh crore in 2025.
