What is Dividend Yield?
Dividend yield measures the annual dividend income as a percentage of the current stock price — showing how much cash return you get just from holding the stock.
Formula
Dividend Yield = Annual Dividends Per Share ÷ Current Stock Price × 100
How to Interpret
Higher yield means more income, but very high yields (>8%) may signal distress. Consistent dividend growers are often better than high-yielders.
Typical Ranges
1-3% for growth companies, 3-6% for income stocks, >6% may signal risk.
