What is Keltner Channels?
An EMA-centered envelope whose width is set by a multiple of ATR rather than standard deviation β a steadier, smoother cousin of Bollinger Bands.
Formula
Middle = EMA(20); Upper / Lower = EMA(20) Β± 2 Γ ATR(10)
How to Interpret
Closes outside a Keltner band signal genuinely strong momentum more reliably than Bollinger touches, precisely because the bands are harder to escape. Often paired with Bollinger Bands to define the TTM Squeeze.
Typical Ranges
Smoother also means slower to register regime changes. Parameter choices (EMA length, ATR multiple) move the bands materially.
