What is Promoter Holding?

Promoter holding is the percentage of a company's shares held by its founders, promoter group, or controlling family — a unique and critical metric in Indian markets.

Formula

Promoter Holding (%) = Promoter Shares ÷ Total Shares Outstanding × 100

How to Interpret

High promoter holding (>50%) signals conviction and alignment with shareholders. Falling promoter holding may indicate pledge liquidation or confidence loss.

Typical Ranges

50-75% is ideal. Below 30% may signal weak promoter commitment. Above 90% may limit liquidity.
