Technical
What is ROC (Rate of Change)?
The percentage change in price over a fixed lookback — commonly 10 or 20 days — plotted as an oscillator around zero. Pure momentum with no smoothing.
Formula
ROC = ((Close − Close N days ago) ÷ Close N days ago) × 100
How to Interpret
Positive and rising = accelerating uptrend; positive but falling = momentum fading even while price rises (an early caution). Zero-line crosses mark simple trend flips. Extremes relative to the asset's own history flag stretched moves.
Typical Ranges
No fixed thresholds — compare against the asset's own historical ROC range. Completely unsmoothed: a large day dropping OUT of the lookback window can swing ROC with no new price action at all.
