What is Sensex (BSE 30)?

Sensex is the benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, tracking 30 of the largest and most actively traded Indian companies — India's oldest stock market index.

Free-float market capitalization weighted index (base year: 1978-79 = 100)

How to Interpret

Sensex and Nifty 50 move closely together. Sensex is more concentrated (30 stocks vs. 50) and historically was the primary Indian benchmark.

Typical Ranges

Similar long-term CAGR to Nifty 50 (~12-14%). Used as legacy benchmark.
